Bronze Wire Mesh - Cutting Instructions

Bronze meshes are easily cut with hand tools. The heavy meshes from 2 mesh through 10 mesh

is best cut with tin snips. To cut 16 mesh and finer, you can use a common scissor.

18 x 14 mesh is what is used in a window or porch screens to keep out common insects.

60 mesh is the size commonly used in kitchen faucets. An 80 mesh has an opening which will

barely pass a human hair. A piece of paper is about three thousandths (.003) of an inch.

Bronze Wire Mesh is a fairly stiff material but may be bent by hand and has some springback after being bent or formed. It is the color of a new penny when first woven* and will gradually discolor. This mesh may be brought to a bright finish by first removing surface oil from the mesh.This process is not for children and you should use gloves and safety mask when using any chemical. In an outdoor environment, the discoloration will become pronounced as soon as six months at the seashore up to 14 to 20 years in desert conditions. This discoloration may be stopped by lacquering, waxing, or periodically oiling the mesh to protect it from atmospheric conditions. *Since the color of bronze mesh is affected by the atmosphere, we try to package carefully to protect the color as much as possible but we still cannot guarantee a uniformed, brilliant polished finish when you receive it.
 
Woven Wire Cloth consists of wires crossing each other, thus forming the shape and size of the apertures. The transverse weft wires are woven into the longitudinal warp wires on looms similar to those used in the textile industry. The weaving reed controls the distances between the warp wires, the weft wires are determined by the pre-setting of the weaving machine. The cross over and under of each wire cause the wires to be crimped, resulting in a firm and stable interconnection of the mesh. The weft wires are also known as shute, shoot, cross or fill wires.

APPLICATION
Woven Wire Cloth is the only medium having exactly equal and controlled apertures together with a big open area and good physical and chemical properties. Due to its precision, wire cloth is the ideal media for sieving, filtering, and printing as well as many other specialized applications. With the right metallic alloy the corrosion resistance is excellent and the tensile strength and the physical properties are superior. Besides the normal square meshes many other variations and different weaves can be woven. Therefore, the applications for wire cloth seem to be unlimited.
