Plain Square Woven Wire Cloth is woven in the way that shute wire passes alternately under and over successive warp wires and each warp wire passes alternately over and under successive shute wires.

The Plain Weave is the most commonly used and simplest wire cloth weave. Each warp wire (wire running-parallel to length of cloth) passes alternately over and under the wires running traversely through the cloth (fill or shoot wires) at 90 degree angles. It has an extremely wide range of applications.

Square Weave - wire cloth woven with the same diameter warp and shute wires which has equal wire spacing to produce square openings and straight through flow path

Uses: Sieve and filter in the acid and alkali environment. Stainless steel wire mesh is used as sieve mesh in petroleum industry; as filter-mesh in chemical industry; also used in galvanized industry.

Common Weave Patterns for Wire Cloth

Square mesh, Plain Weave
Each warp wire (length) and each shute wire (width) pass over one and under the next adjacent wire. 

Square mesh, Twilled Weave
Each wire passes successively over and under the next adjacent pair of wires. 

Plain Dutch Weave
Warp wires are generally larger than shute wires. Shute wires are closely spaced to provide a dense weave.
 
Reverse Plain Weave
Shute wires are larger than warp wires. Warp wires are closely  spaced to provide wedge shaped openings.
