Woven Metal Cloth

Woven Wire Cloth or woven metal cloth consists of wires crossing each other, thus forming the shape and size of the apertures. The transverse weft wires are woven into the longitudinal warp wires on looms similar to those used in the textile industry. The weaving reed controls the distances between the warp wires, the weft wires are determined by the pre-setting of the weaving machine. The cross over and under of each wire cause the wires to be crimped, resulting in a firm and stable interconnection of the mesh. The weft wires are also known as shute, shoot, cross or fill wires.

APPLICATION
Woven Wire Cloth is the only medium having exactly equal and controlled apertures together with a big open area and good physical and chemical properties. Due to its precision, wire cloth is the ideal media for sieving, filtering, and printing as well as many other specialized applications. With the right metallic alloy the corrosion resistance is excellent and the tensile strength and the physical properties are superior. Besides the normal square meshes many other variations and different weaves can be woven. Therefore, the applications for wire cloth seem to be unlimited. CUSTOM WEAVING
Our weaving operation provides the ability to manufacture short runs of specialty meshes and alloys with quick turn around time in addition to full roll runs of 100 linear feet and greater.

SLITTING
We offer extensive slitting operations allowing you to purchase material in varying widths, and in can be provided with or without cores, and in lengths of up to 1,000 feet or more can be provided.

CUT PIECES
We can cut material to your specifications regardless of quantities.

CALENDERING
Flattening and thickness reduction are available for your critical applications.

Annealing and sintering services are available for full rolls, coils and pieces.

Square mesh is used in the areas of screening and filtration.
Steellong produces meshes in its standard program with mesh opening of 0.025 mm up to 14 mm (industrial wire mesh).Depending on the aperture, the woven wire meshes are manufactured as plain weaves (1/1) or as twilled weaves (2/2).
The standard materials used are the stainless steels AISI 316 and 316L.
Depending on the type of mesh, standard production widths range from 1.3 m to 3 m.
Customer-specific orders make up a large part of the production volume of our weaving department.

Plain Dutch Weaves are important components in the range of filter media which we supply for filtration grades of about 40 µm.The cloth is manufactured in a plain pattern (1/1) in which die intervals of the warp wires are greater than between the weft wires. The surfaces of Plain Dutch Weaves are closed and filtration takes place at the crossing point of warp and weft.
These weaves have a considerably greater mechanical stability than plain open square meshes. Our available stock of Plain Dutch Weaves, with openings ranging from nom. 40 µm up to nom. 85 µm, cover most of the needs for filter media in industrial filtration.Plain Dutch Weaves are used in drum filters, nutsch-type filters and in cartridge filters.
The materials used for these stock items are the stainless steels AISI 304 and 316.

Twilled Dutch Weaves are produced by weaving with fewer, thicker warp wires and a large number of thinner weft wires. Using the twilled weaving pattern (2/2), it is possible to create light-proof meshes. The available media range from 1µm nom. opening up to 50 micron opening. Due to the very high mesh density this weaving pattern ensures extremely robust weaves even with very small apertures, making Twilled Dutch Weaves the optimal choice for a wide variety of filtration applications and filtration equipment. These meshes are used in nutsch-type filters in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, in various types of precoat filter systems as well as in cartridge filter systems. These stocks are produced using the standard materials AISI 304L/316L, but customer specific productions can also be supplied on request.
